PCF team attend Morrisons Net Zero Conference

The Morrisons Net Zero Conference was hosted by the School of Sustainable Food and Farming, Harper Adams University, on the 14th and 15th June 2022.
Members of the PCF team, Beth Summers (Senior Programme Manager), Becca Hadaway (Corporate Partnerships Manager) and Liz King (Project Officer), were thrilled to be invited to attend as part of our ongoing partnership with Morrisons. The conference brought together Morrisons suppliers, NetZero partners, and many leading experts in sustainable farming practices.
It was incredible to see the range of work being carried out in this area and the collective commitment of farmers, processors and academics to reach Net Zero by 2030 in line with Morrisons’ targets.
Morrisons suppliers are being supported by the organisation to reach this target, first by discovering ‘how low they can go’ with their own emissions, and then what actions can be undertaken to increase carbon sequestration.
Conference sessions focused on reducing carbon at all stages of the supply chain, ranging from nutrient density in livestock systems, using seaweed to reduce greenhouse gas emissions from ruminant animals, to the using insects to recycle production food waste. Academic presentations were given alongside case studies from farmers who have already embraced regenerative principles.
We were also offered the exciting opportunity to visit the Harper Adams hands-free farm where we learnt what can be achieved by farming autonomously. The 35 hectare site producing a mixture of Wheat, Barley and Beans was being cultivated entirely autonomously using machines and equipment designed and adapted by the team at Harper Adams.
The PCF team would like to thank Morrisons and the School of Sustainable Food and Farming for their kind invitation, we had such an interesting few days exploring the huge range of work being undertaken to ensure agriculture reaches its net zero goals.
