Mandolay Hotel wine initiative raises over £1,600 for The Prince’s Countryside Fund

January 25, 2019

The Mandolay Hotel in Guildford have continued their successful fundraising initiative in support of The Prince’s Countryside Fund, raising a fantastic £1625 in 2018, up £500 from 2017.

The Mandolay donates £1 from the sale of selected bottles of wine to the Fund, with 13 of the wine and champagne choices on their wine list now included.

Matthew Milliken, Managing Director of the Mandolay Hotel, said: “We are delighted with the growing response from guests and diners. Being able to support such a wonderful cause is a genuine privilege and I would like to thank Champagne Laurent-Perrier for all their assistance in promoting the initiative.

“Our ‘little idea’ has really blossomed and it is particularly pleasing that in addition to enjoying some wonderful wines, guests are also interested to learn of the wonderful work that The Prince’s Countryside Fund is doing on behalf of our farming communities.”

The idea has also been well received in the prestigious Conde Nast Johansens Guide ‘Wine List of the Year’ competition in 2016, drawing praise for its ‘inventive and creative support of such a worthy cause.’

Matthew became aware of The Prince’s Countryside Fund in July 2016, and was impressed by the work it does to support rural communities, enhance the prospects of family farm businesses, and generally improve the quality of life in the British countryside.

Claire Saunders, Director of The Prince’s Countryside Fund, said: “We are immensely grateful for this fantastic support from Matthew and the team at the Mandolay Hotel. This creative initiative helps the Fund to continue the vital work we do supporting the UK’s rural communities and farming families, and helps raise awareness of our cause.”
