Ready for Change

McDonald’s UK & Ireland have been working with The Prince’s Countryside Fund since 2020. The partnership forms part of McDonald’s commitment to British sourcing and wider support of the agricultural community. Specifically, McDonald’s are working with the PCF to improve the economic resilience of farming families as they face the agricultural transition period – the biggest changes to face the sector in living memory. We are incredibly grateful to McDonald’s for their support during this period.

We are working together on our Ready for Change programme which offers support for dairy and livestock farmers who have participated in The Prince’s Farm Resilience Programme and are looking to learn more about how to adapt their activities and make informed decisions about their businesses.

By delivering these sessions with The Prince’s Countryside Fund, we hope to provide farmers the opportunity to ask any questions they may have on future policy and seek real clarity on next steps they may need to take.

Ready for Change is a two part workshop which covers the change happening within the agricultural industry, how this will impact your business and how you can plan and react to these changes. During the first workshop you will cover:

  • Change on the Horizon – EU Exit, changing domestic policy and direct farm support changes.
  • Understanding the Likelihood and Impact of Change – Identifying the likelihood of changes relevant to you and their potential impact on your business.
  • With Challenge Comes Opportunity – Identifying whether change is a challenge or opportunity for you and your business.

The group will reconvene roughly a week later for workshop two when you will cover:

  • Understanding and Influencing Change – Understanding how you react to change and influencing others to change.
  • Planning for Change – Planning for change through effective business planning and goal setting.
  • Confidence in Implementing Change – Steps for confidently implementing change in your business.

“It’s really encouraging to hear that McDonald’s are offering this type of support to farmers and helping to keep everyone on the same page.”

Gerard, Northern Ireland

So far, Ready for Change has focused on the Agricultural Transition Plan. The sessions intend to break down what the changes mean in practical terms and offer simple steps that family farms can take to prepare themselves for changes in agricultural policy.

Ready for Change has supported farm businesses in the Northern Ireland and South West Farm Resilience Networks to date, with plans for future sessions underway. The sessions will respond to topical issues and concerns in the farming community.

The PCF are really proud to be partnering with McDonald’s UK & Ireland as they seek to create a more sustainable agricultural sector for the future.

“A farmer had called me to say that she intended to exit farming due to the uncertainty and overwhelming feeling of helplessness regarding future changes, but the Ready for Change workshop made her feel positive for the future and created awareness of the opportunities that could be realised. She can now see a path through for her farming business and intended to stay in agriculture.”
